Membership Opportunities

Being part of something bigger than yourself is a hallmark of military service, but you don't have to stop serving your community, state and nation when your military service ends. The American Legion lets you continue your service while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow veterans.

American Legion Youth Activities

Boy's State

Massapequa Post 1066 sponsors 3 boys to Boy's State which is among the most respected educational programs of government instruction for high school students.

Girls State/Girls Nation

Massapequa Post 1066's American Legion Auxiliary sponsors 1 girl to Girls State which is a nonpartisan program that teaches young women responsible citizenship and love for God and Country.

Boy Scouts Troop 590

Masspequa Post 1066 sponsors Boy Scout Troop 590, Pack 590, a Little League team and a lacrosse team.

Scholarships

Massapequa Post 1066 gives three $1,000 scholarships to a senior going to College. One is given to a Post Member's child or grandchild and one to a student from Massapequa HS and Plainedge HS. Post 1066 also sponsors a nurses scholarship program through the 40/8 and a $500.00 scholarship for three years (total of $1,500 to a nursing student).

Bring A Vet To School

Since November 12, 2010, Massapequa Post 1066 & Mrs. Miller’s 8th-Grade Green Team Social Studies classes from Berner Middle School participated in a program sponsored by The History Channel titled “Take a Vet to School Day.”

Community Involvement

Massapequa Post 1066 raises money through Post activities for programs such as American Legion Emergency Fund, Comfort Warrior Project of the American Legion and Northport VA Rehabilitation Center.
